Dress Review ~ Penelope Dress from Dolly and Dotty

logo_2

When Dolly and Dotty contacted me and asked me to review a dress* for my blog, I have to admit, I’d never heard of the brand and was a little hesitant. But I was pleasantly surprised with not only their large selection, but also that their sizes go up to a UK 24 in most styles.

It was difficult to chose which dress I wanted, but ultimately I chose the Penelope Day Dress in the Light Blue Floral pattern, and I just adore it. With it’s adorable 1950s style and wonderful details, it’s a great cotton day dress for any gal. The only thing that would make it perfect is the addition of pockets.

I love the details like contrasting yellow piping and covered buttons. My dress came with two belts (I’m not sure if they always come with two), one with matching fabric and one yellow to match the piping. I love having options!

The Life Cycle of My Wet Set ~ Day Two

DAY TWO

It’s still pretty chilly here in Germany right now, so I will try and wear my hair mostly down for as long as I can. Once my curl starts to drop I will wear it up more.

For my second day, I chose to wear my fringe in a front pin curl and bring the sides up using a twist method and secure with hair combs. This is really a very simple vintage style and one that I wear a lot in many variations. I lightly brushed my hair with my Denman brush prior to styling and added a little bit of Precious Oil for shine and taming fly-aways.

HOW-TO GUIDE

Here’s a little pictorial guidance on how to twist and secure the sides. You’ll want to grab the sides of your hair and hold it up towards the ceiling and twist inward toward the center of your head. Push the twist forward just a smidgen to give it some volume and secure with a hair comb.

Voodoo Vixen: Suzanne Poppy Flare Dress

I was once again contacted by Voodoo Vixen to review a dress from their FW15 Collection. They have also been kind enough to offer all of my readers a discount code, to receive 20% off any online purchase.

Visit www.voodoovixen.co.uk and use discount code CO20 at checkout to receive your discount

This time I chose the Suzanne Poppy Flare Dress. I’m a sucker for dresses and skirts with pockets, so this was an easy choice for me. Based on their size chart, I chose a 2X. It’s a little tight in the bust, but fits well everywhere else.

I especially love the scalloped detail at the neckline, sleeves and the back of the dress. It has two front pockets which also sport the scalloped detail and a matching notched belt. It’s a nice heavier weight fabric and with elbow length sleeves, it’s a great dress for colder days here in Germany.

The bright red poppies with a hint of purple in the center bring such a beautiful hint of color during the dark and gloomy winter.

I paired this dress with a red turban and Dita Von Teese’s new lipstick color from MAC.

Dress Review: Miss Candyfloss – Kassandra-Lou dress

This past summer I was contacted by Miss Candyfloss about collaborating with them to review a few dresses. As I have a couple Miss Candyfloss pieces (Sheila Lee Playsuit and Odette Kat Dress), I jumped at the chance to work directly with the company. I sent them my measurements and a list of a few dresses I was interested in and they chose two lovely dresses for me.

The “Kassandra Lou” is the first dress. With accents of black/white/grey tartan, 3/4 sleeves and a mid-weight stretchy fabric, this dress is a perfect addition to my Autumn/Winter wardrobe. The fabric is a great medium weight as it can be worn on warmer days, or you can add a pair of tights or maybe a light petticoat for colder days.

I adore the pleating on the bust and the raised collar gives a nice accent. The detail on the sleeves is a lovely touch as well.

Dragonfly in Amber

I am in love with the book series Outlander by Diana Gabaldon! This series currently has 8 books and the author is working on the 9th book now. Last year the series was made into a TV series on STARZ and it’s absolutely amazing. They really cast the characters well and it’s beautifully filmed. The second season will start next year and it’s based on the second book, Dragonfly in Amber.

Last week I read on Diana Gabaldon’s Facebook page that she was going to be in Germany doing a USO Tour with two other authors. I was over the moon to find that the event was happening only 15 minutes from my house, so we made plans to attend.

Of course I had to dress thematically, so I wore my amber yellow dress and dragonfly brooch.

A New Start in an Old Land

Well I’ve made it to Germany! The trip over was gratefully uneventful. My three dogs travelled with us and they all did very well.

Today we spent the day driving around looking for houses. I fell in love with one in particular, but I’m not certain it will work out, we’ll see. We are determined to find something that suits us perfectly and we have more homes to look at tomorrow.

After a day of driving around we decided to do a bit of touristy sightseeing and we’d heard that there was castle not too far from us. So we headed up to Burg Nanstein, it was close to closing for the day so we just walked around the grounds. We will go back and take a tour some other time.

It was originally built around 1162 as a defense for the state of Palatinate. Then in 1518, German knight Franz von Sickingen acquired the entire castle and immediately began extensive refortification to make the castle suitable for firearms.

Nanstein is well known for an elaborate siege during the Knight’s Revolt in 1523 which claimed the life of von Sickingen. The fall of Nanstein was a symbol for the decline of castles in the Palatinate.

Dapper Day Fall Soirée 2014

Last September I was able to attend the Dapper Day Event at Disneyland. This has been a dream of mine since they started it in 2011. So when we decided to visit California, we made sure our trip was centered around this particular event.

What is Dapper Day??

“Started in February 2011, DAPPER DAY® Events organizes fashionable outings to Disney Parks twice a year (spring and fall) in LA, Orlando, and Paris. These events include a “DAPPER DAY at the Parks” with informal in-park meetups, and other happenings outside the parks such as our DAPPER DAY EXPO (in the Disneyland Hotel Exhibit Hall) and our official after party FOLLY in Downtown Disney Anaheim. We sometimes organize other non-Disney-related events at various other locations throughout the year.

DAPPER DAY Events celebrates the tradition of “stepping out in style” and are meant to showcase you at your best. We do not aim to recreate a specific period. All sophisticated attire is encouraged from vintage-inspired classics to chic contemporary looks. Active and retired military are encouraged to wear your dress blues or service uniforms if you like.”

So you can imagine how excited I was to be able to combine two of my favorite things – Disney and dressing well. The day was extremely hot, but we just took our time and strolled around the park. Living on the East Coast now, it’s always a treat to be able to visit the original park. And now as we prepare to move to Europe, we’ll be visiting Disneyland Paris for the Spring Dapper Day event in April 2016.
