A Colorful Spring Day in Vienna

There’s a very specific moment in Vienna when you realize winter is finally over. It felt like a colorful spring day in Vienna in the best possible way.
It’s not a date on the calendar. It’s not even the first day it technically becomes spring. It’s that first truly warm day when the sun feels different. When people linger a little longer in the parks. When suddenly the city feels like it’s exhaling.
We had one of those days this week.

It was warm enough to leave the house without a coat, warm enough to walk without any real destination, just following the light and whatever caught our attention. Trees starting to bloom, tiny flowers pushing up through the grass, people sitting on benches like they’ve been waiting months for that exact moment.
And I noticed something since we’ve moved here. How little color we actually see in people’s clothing.
So many black coats, neutral layers, safe combinations. And I’ve never quite understood that, especially after months of grey skies in the winter. If anything, I find myself wanting the opposite. Something brighter, something with a bit of life in it.
There’s something about putting on color after months of grey that just feels… right. Like you’re finally matching what’s happening outside instead of bracing against it. I didn’t have to overthink this outfit, I just wanted to wear something that felt like the day. This ended up being one of those outfits that just fit a colorful spring day in Vienna perfectly.

This knit top and culotte set is part of my collaboration with Emmy Design’s Spring/Summer 2026 collection, and I’ll admit as a plus-size woman, I was a little unsure at first about the culottes.
Not so much because they’re culottes, but because they’re technically… pants. I tend to be a little cautious with trousers in general. I carry my weight through my stomach and hips, and anything with a flat front always feels like a bit of a gamble. It’s the first place I look, and the first place I tend to overthink.
But these surprised me.
They sit nicely at the waist, the fabric has enough structure to hold its shape while still having a bit of movement, and the cut gives just enough room that nothing feels tight or restrictive. Once I had them on, I stopped thinking about all of that, which honestly says a lot.
And that’s usually my benchmark. If I’m not adjusting, pulling, or second-guessing myself all day, it’s a good piece.

I can already tell these are going to be one of those easy staples for warmer days. Especially when I want a bit more coverage than a skirt or dress, or when there’s just enough breeze to make you think twice about wearing one. Practical, but still very much in line with that vintage-inspired silhouette I’m always drawn to.
Paired with this incredibly soft knit top, which has just enough color and pattern to feel playful without being overwhelming, the whole outfit ended up feeling… joyful. And that’s really the only word for it.
We spent the day walking through some of my favorite spots, stopping whenever something caught our eye. No real plan, no agenda. Just enjoying the warmth, the light, and that feeling of the city waking back up again.
It was one of those days where everything just felt easy. Easy to get dressed, easy to be outside, easy to take your time a bit. The kind of day that reminds you how good a colorful spring day in Vienna can feel.
And honestly, I think we could all use a little more of that. A little more color, a little more ease, and getting dressed for the life we’re actually living.
