An Autumn Day in Luxembourg

We spent the day in Luxembourg visiting the old city and having lunch with friends. Unfortunately it rained most of the day, so we didn’t get too many photos of the city. But it served as a great backdrop for this great OcTieBer outfit.

As some of you know, during the month of October a bunch of amazing sartorial friends get together and share our neckwear ensembles on a Facebook group. It’s a time of year that I look forward to for inspiration and guidance in menswear. I adore wearing menswear and have amassed quite a collection of neck ties and bow ties. I will post more of my OcTieBer outfits later in the month.

But for now, can we just talk about these amazing trousers!!!! As you know, I’m not a big fan of trousers and for the most part it’s because I’ve never found any that really truly fit me well and were comfortable. I’m much more comfortable in dresses and skirts. However, I took a chance on the new Doris Pant from Pinup Girl Clothing and I am pleasantly surprised at how much I love them. The fact that they come in plus size is, of course, a bonus for me. They are highwaisted, and have an elastic waistband in the back to ensure that there is no gapping. I did have to have them hemmed as they were quite long. I’m 5’5″ and they pooled around my ankles when I first tried them on, but I hemmed them up and now they are perfect. The pockets are a great size and placed really well. They are lined, which makes them a tad heavy, but they feel really nice and I think the heft helps them to lay right and move well.

A Touch of Lilac in a Sea of Gold

We decided to take the back roads home today to once again take in the beautiful Autumn colors. I mean look at this!

However, as we rounded a corner coming down the hill, we came across a small patch of beautiful little light purple flowers. It made such a contrast against the amazing reds, oranges and yellows of the Autumn leaves, we just had to stop.

It was then that My Gentleman pointed out that I was wearing hues of purple, so we got out and took some photos.

Dapper Days Challenge

I belong to a few fashion groups on Facebook. Most are a collection of likeminded vintage/fashion lovers who post regular photos of their daily fashions and we all get to gawk at the awesomeness of these great people. They are all wonderful folks and it’s become a close community where we can share our love of fashion and learn from each other.

A few of these groups have 30-day challenges, where you dress in a particular style and post your photos in the group. All of the “likes” are tallied at the end and there is a “winner” (I’m not sure what the winner receives accept the recognition of the group).

Anyway I decided to (sort of) join in on one of these challenges. This particular challenge was to wear a tie, bow tie, cravat or other neck wear every day for the month of March. As my earlier post Ladies in Ties states, I’ve always been a bit uncomfortable in menswear. Well I did not make it every day, but I have to say it really got me out of my comfort zone and I found that I was really enjoying wearing ties. Throughout the month I found myself really trying to incorporate ties and bow ties into my wardrobe. I was purchasing ties online and looking for them in vintage stores.

And to my utter surprise, by the end of the month I had found that I was able to create a way to incorporat my own feminine style wearing ties and bow ties. I now feel very comfortable and even sexy at times wearing them. So here are some of my outfits from this challenge.

Ladies in ties

I’ve always had a love/hate relationship with wearing menswear. As a dame who wears dresses or skirts 99% of the time, I’ve always felt a bit uncomfortable wearing pants or any type of menswear. For some reason, I’ve always felt, well too masculine…I know, I know it’s silly. I understand that no one will ever mistake me for being a man, but I’ve never felt I could “pull it off”. On the other hand I’ve always admired women who can wear menswear and look, not only amazing, but sexy.

Example ~ Katherine Hepburn, she was famous for wearing pants and menswear and she always  looks stunning.

I’ve recently met some lovely ladies who wear mens ties regularly and pull it off so wonderfully that I’ve decided to try it out myself. I’m still not terribly comfortable in pants, although I have some high waisted swing pants being made for me that I’m quite excited about. Here are a few of my new acquisitions. I used a vintage brooch as a collar bar and picked up the rose pin at a local antique shop for $2.50! I purchased the tie from a lovely gentleman from one of the fashion groups I’m in on Facebook.

I also have a few Lady Ties that I really love. Again I mostly wear these with shirts, but if my new pants work out I’ll be getting more made, and thus have a post on my new pants. I have to admit that it does get difficult to stay warm in Baltimore winters wearing dresses and skirts all the time.

I think my next adventure will be a bow tie!!!
