A Return to the Old Days: An Edwardian Inspired Outfit for Spring

There’s something about early spring that feels like a quiet beginning.
Not the bold, blooming kind of beginning that comes later in the season, but a softer one. The light shifts, the air changes, and suddenly you find yourself wanting to step outside and linger a little longer than you meant to. This Edwardian inspired outfit felt perfectly suited to that kind of day.
This past week, I did something I haven’t done in a very long time.
My darling gentleman and I packed up the big digital camera and went out with the sole intention of taking photos.
Not quick snaps on my phone. Not content captured in between errands. But a proper photo shoot. Walking slowly, noticing the light, looking for little corners that might make a beautiful backdrop. Taking the time to adjust, to reframe, to try again.
And I can’t quite explain it, but something about that process felt like coming home.
It brought me right back to the early days of blogging. Back when I would plan outfits, head out with my camera, and spend an afternoon creating simply because I loved it. Back before everything felt quite so fast, quite so tied to algorithms and performance.
If I’m being honest, I’ve felt a bit disillusioned with content creation lately. It’s easy to lose the joy in it when you start thinking too much about what performs, what reaches people, what works.
But this felt different.
This felt like getting back to the basics. Slowing down. Paying attention. Creating for the sake of creating again.
And in a way, this outfit felt perfectly suited to that mood.
The Edwardian Inspired Outfit
This Edwardian inspired outfit from Emmy Design’s Spring/Summer collection leans beautifully into a soft, tailored silhouette.
The One Foot Forward Skirt and Watchmaker’s Waistcoat are done in a soft, dusty blue plaid that feels both structured and gentle at the same time. There’s a quiet elegance to the shape, something tailored but not rigid, which I’ve always loved about Edwardian-inspired pieces.
I paired it with That Same Old Favorite Blouse in rosy chambray, to bring in a bit of color and softness. The combination feels very much like spring to me. Light, but still grounded. Refined, but easy to wear.
It’s the kind of outfit that doesn’t demand attention, but rewards it. The details reveal themselves slowly. The fit feels intentional. And most importantly, it feels comfortable to move in, to walk in, to spend an afternoon in.
Which, as it turns out, is exactly what I did.
A Small Reminder
I didn’t expect a simple photo shoot to shift my perspective, but it did.
It reminded me that I don’t have to approach this the way I’ve been approaching it lately. That I’m allowed to take my time. That I can choose a slower, more thoughtful way of creating, even within the world of social media.
That I can make things because they feel good to make.
And maybe that’s something I want to carry forward from here.
Not a complete reset. Not a dramatic change. Just a quiet return to what made me fall in love with this in the first place.

4th Apr 2026 - 6:07 pmGlad to hear that this excursion was so rewarding for you. Going at your own pace instead of being pushed by an algorithm has to be so much better for you (and your general health). I’m enjoying your content. This outfit is just right for a spring afternoon stroll. You have an excellent eye for color and coordinating different elements in a put together outfit. Gorgeous photos, too!
