THE Best Paris Trip Ever!!!

We traveled to Paris once again…this time specifically to see Dita Von Teese perform in The Art of the Teese. If you haven’t seen this show yet, run – don’t walk to get tickets. It is truly a spectacular show! Of course Dita is an enormous inspiration for me, and for many others in the vintage world, and being able to see her in Paris makes it extra special.

I had so many amazing experiences on this trip and I wanted to share them with you.

For the show I choose the Lana dress from Vivien of Holloway in a beautiful rust/orange color. I paired it with black accessories (hoping I didn’t look like a pumpkin) and a huge statement brooch.

When I was sitting in my seat waiting for the show to start, a lovely gentlemen came over to our table and tapped my arm. He said to me “Excuse me, madame, but I had to tell you how beautiful you are and I love your look.” As I thanked him for his wonderful compliment I realized who I was talking to…none other than Jean Paul Gaultier!!!!!!

He was so lovely and personable. We chatted for a little longer and I got this fantastic photo with him.

I also finally met Ella aka Miss Victory Violet. She is so sweet and lovely and is just as stunning in person as she is in her photos. We exchanged information and the next day she contacted me and asked if I was able to sit in as a hair model for her vintage hair class the next day as the scheduled model was unfortunately was no longer available. Of course I jumped at the chance!

If you ever have a chance to take a vintage hair class with Miss Victory Violet, I urge you to do it! She is super talented, lovely and patient. She has a lot of great tips and tricks and helps you figure out the right techniques for your hair type.

Look at this hair! How amazing is this????

A Return to Paris

We are in Paris once again. I’m here this time to attend a “Makeup through the Decades” class put on through The Paris Institute for Critical Thinking. The first evening featured makeup looks from the 1920s and 1930s and the last evening was 1940s and 1950s. Of course I wanted to dress up for this class, the first evening I did a more 1930s look (I didn’t get photos sorry) and the last evening I tried for a more 1940s style.

I knew I wanted to wear this dress but I didn’t really have a hat that worked perfectly with it. So I contacted Karen at The Heritage Milliner and we came up with this style and color scheme for the dress. I think it turned out perfectly. Earlier in the day we went shopping at Chez PouPoule and I picked up these gorgeous earrings which ended up looking amazing with this outfit.

Another beautiful week in Paris

We were fortunate enough to have another long weekend in my favorite city, Paris. We took the fast train in on Thursday and stayed until Sunday. It’s not nearly enough time to spend in such a fantastic city, but it’s nice to be so close. We are going to make a point to visit every 3 months this year so we can experience all of the seasons. I’m also going to make more of an effort to photograph my outfits and excursions in Paris more.

The weather was lovely, a bit chilly in the mornings and evenings, but beautifully crisp and sunny during the day. So I’ll chronicle the four days of outfits here.

DAY ONE

After strolling around the 5th Arr. that afternoon, we attended a book signing/reading for Greg Proops’ book The Smartest Book in the World at Shakespeare & Company on Thursday night. We ended up hanging out and chatting with him afterwards for a little while, which was a real treat.

Our hotel is very near the Musee de Cluny and nearby is a quaint little park which makes for a delightful backdrop for photos.

DAY TWO

We spent our second day at Disneyland Paris, we renewed our Annual Pass so we’ll be able to enjoy more Disney outings though out the year. We decided not to bring the big camera to Disneyland this time, so not many photos were taken.

DAY THREE

Saturday was the sunniest and most beautiful day we were there. On our way to a museum, we strolled through the delightful Luxembourg Gardens and stopped at the Medici Fountain for a quick photo op.

DAY FOUR

On our final day in Paris, we took a leisurely breakfast and walked down along the Seine to the Jardin des Plantes. I could spend days walking around this garden, which includes a Ménagerie, the Natural History Museum, beautiful greenhouses and so much more.

The trees and flowers were just starting to bloom in Paris and it wasn’t quite as glorious as it will be in a few months, but it’s still an amazing place to walk around and take in all the loveliness.
