Get Excited About Your Wardrobe Again

If you’ve found it challenging to get excited about your wardrobe this past year, I understand. After all, it’s tough to show off a new outfit through Zoom or FaceTime. I’ve found myself losing some inspiration when selecting my clothing choices for just a trip to the grocery store. Even though heading to the market this year has been one of the only experiences to get out of the house and somewhat interacting with others out in the world. I do have regular Zoom meetings with clients and friends, but it’s just not the same. The truth is, I’ve heard from a lot of people who have let their vintage style go out the window as we’ve all weathered pandemic life.
But with more and more people getting vaccinated, heading back to work or even out to see other humans out in the wild, it seems that we are making small adjustments to our new pandemic life. With these changes comes the opportunity to put more a bit more energy into fashion again. Vintage day dresses, peplum tops, and high-waisted skirts have languished in our closets for too long, and it’s time to begin coordinating and accessorizing once again.
But where do we start? Even the most committed fashionista among us may have begun to get a little too cozy in their forgiving yoga pants or elastic waistband pajamas. Stretchy, soft clothes have been one of the sole comforts during this uncertain time. Some may have trepidation at the thought of getting back into their vintage fashion collection.
Let’s talk about a few ways to get excited about your wardrobe once again.
Baby Steps
Open up your closet and take a look at what you find. Surely, some softer, more comfortable pieces still express your style but aren’t as confining as a suit or tight like a belted top. Consider cotton or jersey fabrics that are soft against your skin. Then accessorize! Adding a brooch or art deco earrings can make any outfit stand out.
Another idea is to wear more flowing dresses that don’t constrict. Put your hair in a vintage style, throw on your Mary Janes and head out the door. You’ll bring a je ne sais quoi without any pinching or bunching in your outfit.
The ultimate goal here will be to get back into the regular vintage fashion routine slowly. Still, baby steps towards your smart style will help you get excited about your wardrobe again in the post-pandemic world.

Take Another Look at Your Personal Style
Change is one of the only constants when it comes to life, and fashion is no different. All of us have been impacted by The Great Pause in one way or another. That’s why you may want to take this time to evaluate your personal style. Maybe you find yourself rethinking your previous tendency towards muted colors in favor of some bold accents. Or perhaps you’re moving away from jewel tones and embracing more dynamic textures and patterns. Whatever the change is, all of us can benefit from reflecting a bit on how our style needs are different on the other side of this COVID-19 crisis.
Pull the Pieces Out Ritual
I don’t know about you, but I have so many garments. Sometimes I forget what I even have! That’s why, as we kick into summer and a new phase of life, we can all benefit from a deep dive into our collection to help you get excited about your wardrobe.
I suggest treating your closet like the inside of your purse: take everything out of your closet and “dump” the items on the bed or floor. Then start to try them all on and grab selfies in a full-length mirror. How has your body changed since you wore this item last? How has your mindset been altered? You may find you feel differently about the items this year than you did in the last.
Finally, get organized, placing certain items in “favorite” piles and others in “meh” piles or “come back later” piles. This ritual can help you get a greater appreciation for yourself and who you have become, as well as the clothes that have been with you over the years. This will, in turn, bring back the flair you have for selecting outfits and showing them off this summer.
Get Excited About Your Wardrobe Again
We know none of us will be the same after the coronavirus has swept through the world. Still, coming out into the sunshine and being among others has its benefits. For one, we have been reminded how precious our time is and how we can spend it doing the things we love. Many of us derive endless joy from expressing ourselves through vintage fashion. We just have a “hump” to get over when it comes to forming the habits that enable us to pursue this passion once again. I think we all can agree that this summer is a great time to get excited about your wardrobe.
