The Durrells in Corfu

If you are looking for a light, funny, gorgeously costumed TV show that will whisk you away to a warm sunny place, then you absolutely must watch The Durrells in Corfu. This series is simply a delight. It’s loosely based on the real-life story of the Durrell family — Louisa, Larry, Leslie, Margo & Gerald — in a book trilogy written by Louisa’s youngest son Gerry.

Set in the early 1930s, the show follows the quirky English family after they move to the island of Corfu in Greece. Louisa Durrell (played by the exceptionally charming Keeley Hawes), is a young widow with four children and we get a glimpse of their life in a new country as they try to settle into a new chapter of their lives.

It’s an amusing and charming show that spans four seasons, and you can’t help but fall in love with all of the characters. The costuming of the show is absolute perfection. I found it such a welcome change to see the more relaxed, casual, every styles of the 1930s. It’s truly a feast for the eyes.
