How My Vintage Style Is Evolving for the New Year

As the year winds down, I’ve been reflecting on how my vintage style is evolving for the new year. My style hasn’t changed dramatically, but it has shifted in a natural, steady way that mirrors what’s happening in the rest of my life. I’ll be turning 50 soon, and I’m honestly excited about it. This stage of life comes with a clarity I didn’t have before, and that clarity is showing up in how I dress every day.
Today I want to share how my vintage style is evolving for the new year—from simplifying my wardrobe and choosing natural fibers, to embracing comfort, confidence, and slow, intentional dressing. These changes aren’t about abandoning vintage style. They’re about refining it so it supports the life I’m living now.
Why My Vintage Style Is Shifting This Year
My personal style has always leaned heavily into the 1930s and 1940s, and that hasn’t changed. What has changed is how I approach those styles. I’m no longer interested in forcing myself into looks that are uncomfortable or overly complicated.
This year, I realized that feeling polished doesn’t require a full face of makeup or elaborate hairstyles. I’ve narrowed my hairstyles down to a handful that I love and that work for my everyday life. I’m wearing less makeup than I used to. I’m choosing comfort without sacrificing the vintage silhouettes I adore.
Moving to Vienna has also played a huge role in this shift. I walk far more here than I did in the U.S., so my footwear choices have changed. Stylish but supportive shoes are now a must. And honestly, it’s been refreshing to embrace practicality without letting go of my aesthetic.

Letting Go of What No Longer Serves My Style
One of the biggest changes I’ve made this year is paring down my wardrobe. I’ve been selling pieces that no longer fit my lifestyle, my comfort needs, or the direction my style is heading.
I’m not doing a “no-buy year,” but I’ve definitely slowed down my purchasing. I’m much more intentional now. Instead of variety, I want longevity—clothing made from natural fibers, garments that breathe, move well, and age beautifully.
It feels good to let go of the things that were simply taking up space. A smaller wardrobe actually gives me more freedom, not less.
This process has been a big part of how my vintage style is evolving for the new year, and it feels good to move into a new chapter with a wardrobe that actually supports my daily life.
Repeating Outfits Isn’t Boring — It’s Vintage
This is something I’ve been thinking about a lot as a content creator. I’m not a haul-based creator and never have been. My goal is not to show an outfit so you can buy every piece—it’s to inspire you, especially if you’re plus size, to explore vintage style in a way that feels authentic to you.
But I’ll admit it: sometimes I worry people will get tired of seeing the same clothes more than once.
Then I remind myself what women in the 1930s and 40s actually did:
They repeated outfits. They mixed and matched. They made their wardrobes work.
Repeating outfits isn’t a failure of creativity. It’s a return to vintage authenticity.
How My Mindset Around Vintage Style Is Changing
I’ve also been shifting how I think about content creation. The algorithm can be loud and demanding, and this year I’ve been practicing not letting it dictate my choices.
I’m craving the slower pace I had when I first started my blog—more storytelling, more reflection, more thoughtful posts and videos. I want to create from a place of joy again, not urgency.
For me, dressing vintage is a form of self-care. It grounds me. And I want my content to reflect that feeling.
My Vintage Style Intentions for the New Year
Going into the new year, these are the things I’m prioritizing:
-
Comfort and elegance, finding the balance between feeling good and looking polished
-
Natural fibers, choosing wool, cotton, linen, and blends that last
-
Wardrobe refinement, keeping what supports my daily life and letting the rest go
-
Simplicity, focusing on fewer pieces with more intention
-
Vintage-inspired living, embracing the calm, slow, thoughtful approach that drew me to vintage style in the first place
These changes feel less like upgrading my style and more like coming home to it.

29th Dec 2025 - 4:44 amGiven I don’t have a deep budget l have slowly built a foundation wardrobe of basic skirts and dresses that can be easily accessorized. I also have focused on building a shoe collection that is vintage inspired but practical and comfortable. Each season I try to add in something new – a blouse or cardigan for instance which allows for new ensembles and combinations. I have also simplified my hairstyling by wearing my basic set with minor modifications as each day goes by. I find that I feel stylish and comfortable without stressing over what to do with my hair!
I want to thank you for being a constant source of inspiration and knowledge.
